Joana de Mesquita Lima
Joana is a guest lecturer in Geography at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon and a PhD student in Urban Planning. Her project focuses on urban space in a post-conflict context, analysing Dili, in Timor-Leste, to draw lessons. In this context, she is particularly interested in analysing local territorial dynamics and development processes, as well as governance issues and the actors involved in shaping the territory. As part of her research, and from a broader perspective, Joana is also interested in urban structure and morphology, urban development in the Global South, and post-colonialism.
She began working on urban planning and strategic development projects in Timor-Leste as part of the GERTiL team at the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon and continues to collaborate on other planning projects. She has also worked on the development, management and implementation of environmental and poverty reduction projects in Timor-Leste with the United Nations Development Programme and, later, on short-term consultancies in the areas of communication and project development and implementation.
She holds an undergraduate degree in Environmental Geography and a master’s degree in Development and Planning at the Bartlett School of the Built Environment, both from University College London, University of London.
