Joel Madeira Moreira

Timorese, Cape Verdean and Portuguese, master’s student in History at KU Leuven (2025/26), whose work focuses on Timor-Leste, Portuguese colonial history and the analysis of the discourse that shapes it. His experience includes research at the Timorese Resistance Archive and Museum, where he designed the oral history initiative ‘The Voices of Timor-Leste’ (2024-2025), a research internship on the final period of abolition in Praia (1856–1867) at ISCTE (2023), and consultancy work for the Youth Advisory Council of CAM/Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (2023-2025). He has a degree in Modern and Contemporary History (ISCTE) and is a ‘New Talents’ fellow at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (2024–2025).
